Apprenticeship Opportunities with Specsavers (Yrs 11-13)

At Specsavers, we’re proud of our apprenticeship programme, kickstarting the careers of talented people across the country, and we welcome apprentices of all ages. They’re a great choice for young people at the start of their career looking to earn and learn in a role that makes a difference, as well as those looking for a career change. If you know someone who’d excel in helping our customers both in store, or in their homes, read on and encourage them to apply.

We offer four diverse positions, three of which are delivered by our internal teams and one is delivered by our partnered universities

Optical Assistant Apprenticeship

An optical assistant apprenticeship at Specsavers takes 15-18 months to complete, during which you’ll work for an exciting and innovative company, earning as you learn and gaining valuable work experience. You’ll follow a comprehensive structured training programme from both the in-store or home visits team and the Specsavers Apprenticeship team, that could put you on the path to a career in optometry. (If that’s where you see yourself!)

Customer Service Apprenticeship?

Are you a driven and motivated people-person? Feel like you’ve got what it takes to excel in customer service? For our customer service apprenticeships, we need friendly, enthusiastic people who’ll be helping our customers either over the phone or face to face. You’ll spend 12 months honing your customer service skills, and at the end, you’ll be a fully-fledged Level 2 Customer Service Practitioner.

Spectacle Maker Apprenticeship?

At Specsavers, we want to give great people a headstart in the working world. Our spectacle maker apprenticeships, otherwise known as lab technicians, will teach you to produce customer orders, from making and repairing glasses to interpreting optical prescriptions and drawings, whilst using the most up-to-date technology. If you’re looking for a hands-on role in a busy store lab, read on.

A spectacle maker apprenticeship at Specsavers is a level 3 programme and lasts 15-18 months. As an apprentice, you’ll earn as you learn whilst working for an exciting, fast-paced and innovative company. With an opportunity to gain valuable experience in optical technology, delivered through in-person training and structured learning from both the in-store and the Specsavers apprenticeship team.

Hearing Aid Dispenser Apprenticeship?

At Specsavers, we want great people to run our great audiology services. With our apprenticeships, you can take your audiology career into your own hands from day one.

This is an exciting 18-24 month opportunity that combines hands-on experience at an exciting company and campus-based learning at partnered universities. At the end, you’ll gain a nationally-recognised qualification as a Hearing Aid Dispenser.

What’s on offer, and what are the career opportunities?

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, each apprentice will have a nationally-recognised qualification (see each apprenticeship opportunity for more details). The completion of this apprenticeship will also show their commitment to their learning and although now qualified in a specific role, it also opens the door to many more opportunities within Specsavers.

The training doesn’t stop there. Developing our people is something that happens ongoing. Check out our routes into audiology and optometry and you’ll see that an apprenticeship could be the first step toward working as a dispensing optician or a hearing aid dispenser. If leadership interests them, there is an opportunity to go down the management and in-store trainer route, or even becoming a partner, where they can share ownership of a local Specsavers business. So whatever the path, they will be supported to get there.
